Preface

How distinct is the data for hardware recommendations?
Recommendations for hardware are identified by various tests and from project experience. Data, load profile and other infrastructures can strongly influence results. Therefore, this information is only one specific facet of choosing hardware.

Which operating systems are recommended by SEAL Systems?
SEAL Systems server solutions are available for many operating systems. Not all solutions are available for all operating systems. In case of discontinuation or support restrictions for operating systems or for third party software of manufacturers, the support entitlement expires automatically for SEAL Systems applications.

Detailled information for the recommended operating systems can be found further down on this page for each product.

If not indicated otherwise, the 64 bit version of the operating systems is supported. For 64 Bit Linux in addition the 32 bit compatibility libraries of the operating systems are required.

Is there a recommendation on using Antivirus programs on SEAL servers?
Please understand that , as the scan performance of Antivirus programs constantly changes, SEAL Systems cannot give a recommendation here.

Which computer type is necessary for server installation?
A server hardware with a failsafe mass storage or mirrored subsystem is recommended. CAD conversions may require client operating systems and appropriate hardware.

Can SEAL Systems software be installed on a computer with other applications (ex. SAP Content Server, SAP Application Server, Domain controller)?
It is not advisable to install such services on the server. Installation and support services can affect the availability of these services. Interactions of different applications may lead to disturbances.

Does SEAL Systems support virtual environments?
SEAL Systems server components run under VMware and Hyper-V. SEAL Systems requires a configuration (CPU, RAM, HDD) that is similar to the hardware requirement mentioned below.
We recommend to optimize the VM for File I/O Performance.
Furthermore, the hosts should not be moved during operation to other machines (Loadbalancing).
For CAD-Conversion solutions an approval for virtual systems is needed from provider of the CAD system. In case this is not available, physical hardware is needed.

The hardware configuration for PLOSSYS servers depends on the number of printers, the performance, the expected load peaks and the planned solution architecture. Therefore we can give only very common basic recommendations. Currently we advise our customers to provide the following server equipment:

The SAP BC-XOM connection requires the installation of SEAL Systems software components on the SAP application servers. The following operating systems are supported in addition:

Conversion solutions

The operating system is dependent on the source application of the conversion.

Computer equipment

This data is for conversions of Microsoft Office documents with an average of

10 pages. For CAD drawings, the system data of the CAD construction computers should be used.

Due to technical reasons the needed ram when using "SEAL Document Conversion Suite for BC-XDC" is calculated like this:

ram = total amount of conversion data x 2.

Common Conversions

DPF and DPF based solutions are principally only available for Windows operating systems. By request, some single solutions can be provided for Linux.

CAD Conversions

The installations of CAD conversions are only supported for certain Windows operating systems. Before the installation of the solution on other operating systems or in virtual environments, the support of this configuration by CAD system, CAD converter and DPF4Convert is to be checked. For further information please visit the web sites of the corresponding CAD system provider.
Please always keep in mind that under certain circumstances much more than 16GB RAM is necessary. This mainly is related to the size of the CAD models that you convert.
At the moment, SEAL CAD conversion solutions only support Windows 64Bit versions.
Windows server operating systems only are recommended if they are specifically released from the CAD supplier, same goes for virtual environments.

FAQ

Is it possible to install various application converters on one server?
Yes, with the exception of CAD conversions. On a single system a CAD conversion and any other non CAD conversion can be installed.
Various CAD conversions on one server are not supported.

Is it possible to install conversion solutions on the same server as the ouput management system or the DMS View server?
Conversions of Microsoft Office documents or CAD drawings are very hardware intensive and can significantly reduce the performance of other applications.
Therefore, seperate hardware is recommended for conversion.

This data is for viewing an average of 10 pages PDF or TIFF/G4 documents.

Operating Systems

DMS View/Server uses the same environments as described in DPF Conversion solutions.

FAQ

Are there any specific requirements for the DMS View/Server?
Yes, the DMS View/Server is an interactive application. Maximum load of another application can temporarily lead to reduced response.
